Who we are

Alejandro de la Puente

Alejandro de la Puente

Director of Technology

Builds the analytical systems that make it possible to decide with rigor when uncertainty is the rule on the ground.

A physicist by training and a data scientist by trajectory, Alejandro designed decision-support models for the United States Department of Defense, where he was an Operations Research Analyst and later Principal Data Scientist, delivering analysis at the highest levels of command.

Today he applies that rigor at Aluna Insights, leading the technical architecture of Symist (Symbiotic Mining Standard), the platform that connects data with the quality of decisions through analytical frameworks capable of withstanding non-stationary conditions.

In parallel, he is a Quantitative Researcher at Ursa Group (Santiago, Chile), where he identifies regime changes in financial markets: the moment the rules of the game change, before the market confirms it the hard way.

He was also Director of the Society of Physics Students at the American Institute of Physics and Associate Director of Science Alliance at the New York Academy of Sciences. His research in theoretical physics made contributions to particle and nuclear physics.

PhD in Particle Physics from the University of Notre Dame.

Outside work, he is passionate about jazz and the outdoors — he goes trekking in national parks with his family and their two dogs.

Gabriel Arriarán

Gabriel Arriarán

Director of Intelligence

Twenty years researching, from the inside, the small-scale mining and illegal economies that companies and gold buyers only see from the outside.

An anthropologist and investigative journalist with more than two decades of fieldwork in the Peruvian Amazon, Gabriel is the author of Frontera Pirata (Planeta, 2020), the reference investigation on the history of illegal mining in Madre de Dios.

For years he has documented human trafficking routes, corruption, and the power dynamics behind illegal mining in the region, work recognized on multiple occasions by the Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS) and a finalist for the Javier Valdez Latin American Journalism Prize.

In social management: he has led dialogue and conflict-negotiation processes for mining, oil, and infrastructure companies and coordinated dialogue between the State, the private sector, civil society, and small-scale mining associations around the new legislation for artisanal and small-scale mining (MAPE).

His due diligence work under Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) criteria includes the evaluation of responsible gold certification programs (Fairmined) in Puno and Madre de Dios, which gives him an uncommon perspective: he knows both the logic of informal mining and the real standards of formal, certified mining.

MSc in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Outside consulting work, he is passionate about literature: he has published essays, non-fiction, and novels, and teaches creative writing workshops.
